Brighter Days Ahead: Eduprize Gilbert Invests in New LED Lighting

How a lighting upgrade at Eduprize’s Gilbert campus is creating better spaces to learn, teach and work.

This fall, Eduprize is replacing the aging fluorescent lighting across its Gilbert campus on West Melody Avenue with modern, energy-efficient LED lighting. Work begins Thursday, October 22, and takes place after school hours, so classes carry on as usual.

It may look like a simple swap of bulbs, but it is much more than that. Lighting shapes how every classroom, hallway and office feels, all day, every day. Here is what the upgrade means for the students, teachers and staff who spend their days at Eduprize Gilbert.

Better Light for Better Learning

Students spend most of their day reading, writing and looking at the board. Good lighting makes all of that easier.

  • Clear, consistent light. Old fluorescent tubes dim, flicker and buzz as they age. LED lamps give steady, even light from the moment they switch on.
  • Fewer distractions. No more flickering tube at the back of the room or a dark corner waiting for a repair.
  • A safer campus. The project adds new emergency lighting and lighted exit signs, so hallways and exits stay visible if the power goes out.
  • Cleaner materials. Fluorescent tubes contain small amounts of mercury. LED lamps do not, and the old tubes are being removed and recycled properly.

A Better Workday for Teachers and Staff

Teachers and staff are on campus before the first bell and long after the last one. The new lighting is built to make those long days easier.

  • More comfortable rooms. LEDs give off far less heat than fluorescent lighting, which helps classrooms stay cooler in the Arizona heat.
  • Less waiting on repairs. LED lamps last much longer than fluorescent tubes, so burned-out lights and work orders become rare.
  • No disruption to teaching. All work happens from 4:00 to 11:30 PM on weekdays. Teachers will arrive to classrooms ready to go, just brighter.

Leadership Investing in the Long Run

This upgrade did not happen by chance. Eduprize leadership, led by Executive Director Robin Yeargain, looked for a solution that would serve the Gilbert campus for years, not just patch problems as they came up.

The result is a project that pays off in more ways than one:

  • Lower energy costs. LED lighting uses far less electricity than fluorescent lighting. Every dollar saved on utilities is a dollar that can go back into the classroom.
  • A smart use of funds. The project qualifies for a utility rebate that offsets a meaningful share of the cost.
  • Built to last. The work is backed by a 5-year warranty, so the campus is protected long after the crew leaves.

What to Expect

  • Start date: Thursday, October 22
  • Work hours: weekdays, 4:00 to 11:30 PM
  • What you may see: ladders and equipment in hallways in the late afternoon, and lights that look brighter and whiter each morning as rooms are finished

The crew cleans up at the end of every shift and puts everything back where it belongs.
